Description

Final concert, a reading-concert loosely based on Sergio Endrigo’s Quanto mi dai se mi sparo?, written and performed by Nicoletta Fabbri and Dany Greggio, with songs by Sergio Endrigo, live music and sound design by Franco Naddei, lighting by Antonio Vanzolini, photography by Saverio Femia, video by Stefano Bisulli, project curated by Fabio Biondi, co-produced by Cantiere Poetico for Santarcangelo and Sillaba . A journey through singer-songwriter music, focusing on a cultured and refined artist, Sergio Endrigo—an elegant and popular composer who, like other noble forefathers of Italian song, endured years of neglect by the recording industry.

Drawing on his unforgettable songs and a curious novel he wrote in 1995, we pay tribute to the poets of yesterday and today—those who, from the margins, know how to tell the stories of what we don’t see, with a shy and discreet spirit, with lightness and a sense of humor; after all, “they’re just little songs.” Sergio Endrigo is a cultured, refined artist—a poet who has written some of the most beautiful songs in Italian pop music. While he warmed the hearts of many people during the golden age of Italian song in the 1960s and 1970s—writing, producing, and selling records, promoted and distributed by the most important record labels—as time passed and musical trends shifted, his voice faded; the music industry looked elsewhere, and he was forgotten.

This is a fate shared not only by him but also by other noble fathers of Italian songwriting—“when one’s own language seemingly does not align with the times in which one lives,” says Franco Battiato, who revisits several of his songs. It is also the fate of poetry, which knows all too well what it’s like to exist on the margins of a cultural system that does not value it—a system that often grinds it down and devours it, or simply ignores it, yesterday as well as today.

Let’s return to working together on a journey through singer-songwriter music, turning our attention to this composer who is both elegant and popular, exploring his unforgettable songs and a curious novel he wrote in 1995—one that has disappeared from catalogs and has never been reprinted: Quanto mi dai se mi sparo?. Let’s pay tribute to the poets of yesterday and today—to those who, from the margins, know how to tell us what we don’t see, with a light, unassuming, and discreet spirit; after all, “they’re just little songs.”
